Create Your Image Concoction With Interlacer

May 13, 2011

Interlacer ($0.99) by Jeremy Brooks is a photography app that combines two or more images into one. This creates a morphed image that resembles characteristics of both original images. The app can combine photos and pure colors for a more vivid product.

The app creates modified images by replacing lines in one image with lines from another. This produces an overlay effect where the interlaced image looks like a morph of the originals (for a more in-depth explanation consult the in-app about page). The width of the lines being replaced can be customized; widths range from one to fifteen. Images can also be staggered through the customizable shift effect. Shift values range from -50 to 50. The most realistic images have small lines and shift values close to zero.

Interlacer can create images of all different sizes; each image size is determined by the first image loaded, so choose wisely. Once images are loaded, they are displayed in the grey bar at the bottom of the screen. Colors can also be interlaced, and are shown in the same grey bar. Adding a color is the same as adding a picture. Any color under the rainbow can be selected, literally. Tapping on an image/color there will give users the option of removing it from the interlacer. This cannot be undone, so be careful before removing images from the toolbar. Once you have created your perfect image, tap the save icon at the bottom of the screen. Your image will be saved to your iPhone’s photo library.

Interlacer is a fun and easy to use app. Although it serves no practical purpose, it is interesting to see what concoctions you can interlace up. If you have an extra $0.99 check it out.
