The Best iPhone/iPad Apps Right Now

June 1, 2011
The best apps are not always those at the top of the App Store rankings. However, being in the top positions certainly helps and can lead to higher sales. Ranky, which recently debuted in the App Store, lets developers, marketers, and consumers check app rankings in real time using a number of different tools. Created by StudioDP, Ranky allows you to see current ranks of iPhone/iPod touch, iPad, Mac, and Universal apps. Plus, you may do so for 60 different countries and compare an app's performance in each. For example, to check the current U.S. ranking for The Wall Street Journal – Mobile app, use the app’s search engine. Ranky identifies the app as not being in the Top 300 apps. However, it ranks #10 in its category, News. Best of all, Ranky remembers previous searches and then compares them with current rankings. You can also share the rankings of an app by email and Twitter. Ranky, which is priced at $.99 in the App Store, isn’t perfect and certainly not for everyone. For example, the app would go further by automatically including the current Top 10s by categories, but it does not. Instead, you have to actually search for a specific app and then see how it compares to those in the overall rankings. Still, the app is a nice tool nonetheless. What do you think? Leave your comments below.
