Kami Retro HD Hits The iPad

Kami Retro HD hit the App Store recently and it is based on the critically acclaimed iPhone game that blends puzzle gaming with platforming. You have to set up levels in a particular fashion and guide four characters, called Kamis, to safety. You do this in order to to complete various levels and gain stars to unlock new worlds.
To complete a level, you have semi-direct control over each of these Kamis by making them switch the direction they are running in, or when they have to jump on a new platform. The Kamis come down a doorway after a specific time has passed; and you have to quickly get them to the exit door before other ones start coming down.
The controls are not like those of standard platformers. You don't have any virtual dpads or sticks. Instead, the game's characters are controlled by swipes. They also are endlessly running in one direction after coming down from a doorway, but they can be made to switch directions, as mentioned. A good way to describe the game would be a mix of endless running with puzzle-platforming.
There are different worlds available with their own themes and sets of levels. One is based on amusement parks, for example, while another one has a haunted Halloween-like setting.
As you platform via swipe controls and try helping these Kamis reach the exit, you will be setting up levels. Before you tap on the initial doorway to start unleashing the Kamis, you will want to move around springboards, fans, platforms, and some other items given to you. There are also hazards that have to be overcome, and they are not under the player's control.
Kami Retro HD is definitely worth checking out if you are a puzzle or platforming fan. The game has elements of the classic Lemmings games and of Nintendo's Mario vs. Donkey Kong franchise.
The game is available for the iPad right now on the App Store for $2.99.
