For Kids, "Create A Monster" Is One Monster Of A Creative App
May 22, 2011
In many ways, the iPad has become the natural, modern extension of childhood favorites like the Etch A Sketch and Wooly Willy toys of old. There are countless structured "creation" apps across iTunes, and, though most of them are decent enough, very few actually truly stand out.
Create A Monster HD, by developer Justfun, is one of the very best such entries to date. Once opened, you're given lots of options for silly silhouettes on bright, colorful canvases. After selecting your monster's basic shape, you can populate the beast with all kinds of blinking eyeballs, noses, ears, mouths, hairdos, and accessories. There's lots to choose from, and planned updates -- both paid and free -- will add tremendous replayability to this already varied package. Check out the trailer below, and you'll see what I mean.
The controls are simple, the gestures are smooth, and resizing, mirroring, and deleting elements is straightforward, fast, and easy. If you've got a creative kid always yammering away for your shiny Apple tablet, grab this app and let 'em run wild. (Figuratively, that is. An iPad's like a pair of scissors: You never run with it!)
Heck, even if you don't have any youngsters around, the app's a blast. Everyone, everyone, look what I made:
Create A Monster HD, available in iTunes for only $2.99, is stylish, easy, colorful, and -- as the developer's name so playfully indicates -- just fun!
