MyHabit: Amazon Joins Fashion Flash-Sale Market

May 4, 2011
Amazon.com is joining the growing fashion flash-sale market, made popular by Gilt Groupe and Rue La La. However, unlike those competitors, Amazon’s MyHabit.com site is not offering iDevice owners a separate app to use to make purchases. In news first reported by The Wall Street Journal, Amazon’s MyHabit offers up to 60 percent off designer brands such as Vera Wang, i.am, and Bed Stu. Sales, which typically last 72 hours and start at noon EDT, are for women, men, and children. Unlike the main Amazon website, which can seem cluttered at times, MyHabit offers a clean, simple look. According to the head of MyHabit, Maria Renz:
“We are focused on building great customer experiences, and that is a priority for us.”
Best of all, Amazon is making sure every item listed on MyHabit is already in stock at its fulfillment centers. This allows them to offer free four-day shipping and paid one-day shipping. Another MyHabit feature is a video of each item, as worn by a model. Although The Journal mentions these videos are Flash-based, they seem to work just find on an iPad 2. The videos, however, are not an available option on an iPhone/iPod touch. Finally, while Gilt Groupe and Rue La La limit membership, anyone with an Amazon account may sign up for a free MyHabit membership. It will be interesting to see how successful Amazon’s latest endeavor becomes and if the company will eventually release separate iDevice apps for it. What do you think? Leave your comments below.
