May 17, 2011
FX Photo Studio HD ($2.99) by MacPhun LLC is a newly updated photography app for the iPad and iPhone, and it has also recently been released for Mac. Now, have all these creative tools right on your desktop! Easily edit your photos and enjoy all the artistic touches you can create with FX Photo Studio. The new Mac version is available in the App Store for $14.99 along with a pro version for $29.99.
You do not need to be a photographer to enjoy FX Photo Studio. Anyone who enjoys taking photos with any type of digital camera will find this app an enjoyable way to enhance their photos. The included tools are easy to understand and the creative possibilities are endless. It is so simple to use, even kids will enjoy playing around with their photos.
There are two versions in the App Store: FX Photo Studio and FX Photo Studio Pro. They both have many of the same features, except the pro version offers more advanced editing tools such as sharpening, levels, color balance and RAW file support. Both versions support most image formats such as TIFF, JPEG, PNG and BMP. If you don’t understand what all these formats are, more than likely you’re covered, as most consumer cameras shoot in a JPEG file format.
To begin using FX Photo Studio, you can either drag and drop your photo into the application or upload it from your hard drive. Once your photo is imported, you will see a tool bar across the top that is easy to understand and use. Below your photo, you will see a preview of how your image will look when the many built in special effects are applied. Once you find an effect you like, choose it and click apply. Within each effect, there are some customization tools you can use to enhance your photo even more. Once you find a look you really like, you can add a custom preset so you can duplicate the settings in another photo.
When you have created your masterpiece, you can use the integrated features to share your photo on Facebook, Twitter, Flicker, Tumblr, and email. You can also export the photo into iPhoto or save it as a file on your hard drive.
If you don’t want to invest the money on the Mac version right away, check it out on your iDevice first and see if you enjoy the app. If you like the iPad or iPhone version, you will love the flexibility and ease of use on your desktop.
I was very impressed with this app and enjoyed playing around with all the effects. This may be one of the easiest to use photo editing apps available, considering all the included features. Even if you do not want to add creative effects to your photos, the editing features will cover most of your needs and it's very simple to use. MacPhun LLC has created an app that will be enjoyed by both amateur and professional photographers!
