Know How Far Apart Locations Are From Each Other With Distance By Vitzu
Distance by Vitzu (Free) by Vitzu is an app to help you tell how far apart two locations are in the world.
Have you ever wondered how far apart you are from your vacation spot? Or just curious about how far apart two locations are from each other? Distance by Vitzu can help you figure that out.
I opened the app and was greeted by a nice looking loading screen. After the map data loaded, I am greeted with two locations, a set of spinners, and a number in between the spinners that calculates the distance in kilometers and miles between the locations. You can switch between kilometers and miles by simply tapping on the corresponding unit measurement that you want.
By default, the two locations are set to Washington D.C. and New York City. You can tap on each location to view a complete drop down list of a bunch of locations in the world. Additionally, you can spin the spinners to go through the locations in alphabetical order.
I found the location list to be a bit confusing. I tried to search for "Los Angeles, CA" but there was no results. However, if you search just the city without the state, there will be results. I found this to be a bit confusing and weird, but it must be an oversight from the developer.
Besides just looking at some text for distance between locations, you can view these locations on a Google map. The first location will be marked with a green pin, and the destination will be marked with red. A green line will represent the straight line distance between these locations.
But when you actually travel, it's highly unlikely that you'll actually travel in a straight line, right? A tap of that squiggly line button will show you an actual route that you can take to get to the destination, shown in blue. You also get the miles of the route and approximate travel time.
You can also have the app pinpoint your location on the map by tapping the crosshair button. There are also buttons for the green and red pins that you can readjust on the map however you please. However, rearranging the pins on the map won't change the locations you set up in the previous screen, which I found weird.
That's pretty much it for Distance by Vitzu. There is no way to view any information about the developers, or any settings to tweak. I found the app a bit annoying to use, since picking locations from the list was a bit of a nuisance. Dragging along the side for the alphabetical order will only get you alphabetical order for countries, but you'll have to scroll through all the cities within that country or search for a specific one yourself.
The app is currently free for a limited time, so it would be the best time to give it a try. However, once it is no longer free, I don't think it would be something I'd pay for.
