I Do Lists: Simple and Minimal To-Do Lists

I Do Lists (Free) by Eight Thumbs is a clean and simple to-do list for your iPhone.

Yes, here we are again with another to-do app. The App Store is certainly oversaturated with these apps, isn't it? However, I Do Lists is simple and minimal in design, and should appeal to some users out there that are still looking for the app that fits their workflow.

The first thing you'll notice about I Do Lists is the design. Personally, when I first launched the app on my iPhone 4, I immediately thought of one of my other favorite apps out there, Calvetica. There are similarities in the icon, the very straight and linear design, and the use of Helvetica. Oh, and don't forget about that red + symbol.

There is a default "User Guide" list that will give you the basics about using the app. You can create as many lists as you need for all the different types of tasks in your life. As you go into a list to start adding in task items, you simply need to start typing and then hit Return or tap the next blank line to create a new item. It's minimalistic and requires no additional steps, which is always nice for users that don't need feature-bloat.

To-do items can be rearranged to however you please by dragging the item by the icon on the right-hand side. Swiping on an item will mark it off as complete and move it to the bottom of the list, while swiping on a completed item will restore it. Tapping a task will allow you to edit it. Tap and hold to highlight an item, possibly those important and urgent ones (think of it as priority).

Sometimes you end up not needing to do something after all. If that's the case, you can select items by tapping on that button with the "list" icon in the lower left corner. By doing this, you can either delete or move multiple items, which is handy to have. A list can be deleted via the trash button on the bottom toolbar, or sent via email or SMS as plain text.

I Do Lists also features "Smart Paste," which allows you to paste in lists from other apps that will be formatted automatically, thanks to line break detection. This is great if you have a list of things that you need to do that are first in your email, web browser, or SMS message.

The app is free and ad-supported. An in-app purchase of $3.99 will remove the ads and support the developers.

If there is anything that I think the app can use, it is some sort of sync method, even if just by Dropbox or a web app. While I would love to use this primarily as my main to-do app, I prefer being able to access my tasks from my computer or iPad if need be. Hopefully, a syncing solution can be added in future updates.

However, for those that like very simple and minimalistic, beautifully-designed to-do apps, I Do Lists is worth a try. The developers want users to note that this is only the first version of the app, and they do have many more features that they are planning to add in future releases.
