Popstamatic Pop Art Creator (Free) by IDEA.org is a new app that does one thing - it turns your photos into Andy Warhol-esque pop art. I just love this effect, personally, and if you do too, you’ll want to snap this one up while it’s still free.

Popstamatic is simple to use. Tap “Create New” and then upload a photo from your library or take a photo in-app. You’ll get the best results if you use a well-lit, clean-lined photo with a minimal background. Your photo will take about half a minute to “popstamatize”. The result is your photo in five different pop art color combinations. When you have selected the one you like best, tap “Next”, and your photos is automatically saved to your camera roll. And that’s it!

I think this app is off to a good start. My results are sufficiently Warhol-like, I think. Still, there are a number of features I’d like to see in future updates. First and foremost, it needs the ability to save more than one color combo at a time. It’s a bit tedious to have to upload my picture four separate times in order to create the four-paneled feature photo I created. Which leads me to my next wish -- the ability to create the classic four-panel shot right within the app. I used another app, Diptic, to create the photo you see at the top of the article, but I think that a pop art app ought to be able do that itself. I would also like to see more color combinations offered. Why stop at five? Some folks would probably like higher resolution photos, but personally, I don’t think it matters much for this sort of app.

In summary, I think this is a fun app and I recommend downloading if you can grab it while it’s still free (“for a limited time”). After all, there are no annoying ads or nag screens to buy in-app purchases. At free, it’s a bargain. When it becomes a paid app, I will expect a bit more from it. I do recommend, if you want to create multi-panel shots, that you pick up one of the apps from our AppList entitled Apps For Combining Photos.
