QuickAdvice: Windbell Diary Is A Beautiful Diary And Note App - Plus Win A Promo Code For iPad Version!
Windbell Diary HD ($2.99) by Coolin is the diary app you’ve been looking for. This review is written about the iPad version, but there is also a version for the iPhone/iPod touch, as well as a free, lite iPhone/iPod app you can try.
Upon opening the app, you are greeted with a peaceful “writing room”, a room with a view. Tap the diary sitting on the desk to get started.
Personalize your paper as well as your font style, size, and color. Choose icons that indicate your mood, the weather, or what sort of occasion/celebration the day may hold. Add photos and voice memos. Write in portrait or landscape mode. Share your diary pages on Facebook, Twitter, or email. If you prefer to keep your diary to yourself, you can back it up to Google Docs or to your computer. You can password-protect your diary for further privacy.
If you want to view a month at a glance, tap the wind chime. Each dot on the chime represents a day. Tap on that date to view that day’s diary entry.
Tap the Menu icon (a flower in a vase) to change the window’s view to Golden Fields, Blue Beach, Green Forest, or a photo from your library. You can choose from a number a number of relaxing sounds, such as birds chirping, wind chimes, and waves rolling, or listen to your own music as you write. Here in the Menu is also where you can set up your password, to keep your diary away from prying eyes. This is also where you can back up to Google Docs or your computer, either one entry at a time or as a batch, which is a really nice feature. You can also access the Help menu here, which guides you through the entire app and its features with pictures and simple instructions.
But Windbell Diary is really two apps in one. You can also use the app as a calendar/note/GTD app. Back on the main screen, simply tap the calendar on the “wall” to go into the calendar mode and make notes about things you need to get done. You can then add a highlight or checkmark in various colors, whatever sort of system works for you. Truly, it’s more diary than note app, but it’s a nice added feature.
The only thing I really didn’t like was a small ad for other apps that pops up on the Menu page. I feel like paid apps should not have ads. Also, though you can write in landscape mode, some screens are in portrait mode only, which means a little bit of switching around if you’re a landscape writer (which I am). That’s a small quibble, though.
There is a lot to explore here in this beautiful, feature-rich diary/calendar app. I recommend you try at least one version if you have any need for an app like this. We’ve teamed with the developer to offer one lucky winner with an iPad a copy of Windbell Diary HD. To be clear: this promo code is for the iPad-only version of this app. To enter, simply comment below. Contest ends May 19 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Good luck!
