Shoot Watermelons, Earn Points, Score Big With Melon Truck!
May 14, 2011
Melon Truck ($0.99) by Batuhan Akalin will sharpen your watermelon aiming skills in no time! Shoot melons into baskets from your truck and earn points. Kids and adults of any age will enjoy this challenging and fun game. Melon Truck reminds me of Skee-Ball, where you use a similar technique of aim and shoot.
To play, set up the perfect position of your shooter from the back of the truck. Use your finger by positioning it on the screen, determine your angle and speed in order to setup the ideal shot. When you are ready, launch your melon into the air by releasing your finger. The goal is to get as many points as possible by landing inside a basket. Each basket has a point level, depending on the difficulty. There are also items that will take away points, such as a minus sign, or a bucket that has a negative 500 points. If you hit a button with a question mark, it will either give or take away points.
There are two different sets of levels you can play in Melon Truck. The first is Duruyo Land. Once you unlock all those levels, you can move on to Oynuyo Land. There are a total of 54 levels with 27 in each land. In addition, there are six bonus levels that require you to pass all the levels with a perfect score of 3,000. Unfortunately, I have not made it to any of the bonus levels yet, however it is nice to know there is something to strive for. This encourages you to go back and try to beat your previous score.
After struggling for over 20 minutes with level one, I finally took the hint from the developer on what angle and speed I should use to prepare for my shot. Surprisingly, it worked like a charm. It actually helped me on all the future levels as well. Once I got the angle and speed down, I was on my way and cruising through the levels.
I did find the controls in Melon Truck a little hard to use. After you set your speed and angle, you release your finger and the melon will launch. Sometimes my melon would launch before I was ready. I think it would be nice to set the speed and angle, and then have a different button to push in order to activate the launch. I also would love to see the watermelons splat on the ground if you miss a basket, as they would in real life.
If you like a challenge, critics are touting this app as a must-have in your game collection. It is a newer app, so I imagine more updates and improvements will come soon, so I don’t think Melon Truck will be a disappointing download.
