"Slideways For iPad" Is An Elegant, Free (For Now) Photo Gallery Viewer
May 23, 2011
Slideways, Khaitu's photo gallery and online exhibition viewer for iPhone and iPod touch, has finally made it's way to the iPad. This bigger version, while true to its roots, effectively and elegantly uses the iPad's increased screen real estate to share pictures from artists and sites all over the world.
The app really is beautiful to look at, and the simple presentation and menus are second to none. In this early build, options are fairly limited, however, as you're only able to import galleries from the Picasa and Flickr services, your photo gallery, and various "media" RSS feeds. Keep in mind, you cannot yet delete the default galleries included with the app, which is proving problematic for some users.
As far as viewing the galleries themselves, you can adjust the slide period (three to 30 seconds) and the transition duration (one to four seconds). Looping galleries is selectable, as is the famous pan-and-zoom "Ken Burns Effect."
Normally $4.99, Slideways for iPad is free on iTunes for a limited time.
