Steve Jobs To Become Baddie-Fighting Freedom Plumber. Maybe.
May 6, 2011
FRUITcomputer's first iOS project, Super Steve Bros., has been making the rounds in teaser form. Predictably, the title is a game that apes the NES classic and replaces Mario with Mr. Jobs.
The app's premise, via the creator's website, goes like this:
We are in the dark age of technology, the world it’s [sic] dominated by this huge corporation with no taste. Big Blue wants it all, and is aiming its guns on its last obstacle to industry control: Steve, CEO of Fruitcomputer. Will Big Blue dominate the entire computer industry? The entire information age? Was George Orwell right?I still don't know how Ninja Steve made it into the App Store, but don't be surprised when FRUITcomputer's slogan goes from "Tap. Boom. Amazing!" to "Tap. Boom. Rejected!" If Super Steve Bros. somehow manages securing approval, there might be something to it for a bit of 8-bit, retro action. Perhaps even an amusing storyline will pop up. For me, though, Nintendo clones are off-limits. And for Apple, Steve clones usually are, too. CYA on Cydia... Update: We received feedback from the app-maker himself, Marcos Navarro, and it turns out he's the same guy behind the art for Ninja Steve. He had this to say in response to my implied disdain for Nintendo clones:
Only thing I would like to clarify is that this is no Mario clone. sure, we are heavily inspired by it, but we expect to deliver a unique experience, not a lame rip-off. The character design ended up being 8bit, although at some point HD fully animated graphics [are expected], but fans loved the 8bit version, so 8bit it is.That's certainly encouraging from my end, and Navarro hopes to get around Apple's banhammer by not including identifying spoof scenarios like keynote stages and Android mascot enemies. Let's all wish him luck on the project. You can follow the app on Twitter (@superstevebros).
