Top Selling Photo App For iPad Is Updated And We've Got Promo Codes

May 25, 2011
One of the top photo apps for the iPad has received an update for Flickr power users. Lifelike Cards HD now allows users to create and store their own photo collections using a Flickr user or group account. Plus, AppAdvice has a few promo codes for our readers to get the app for free. Created by Lifelike Apps, the app allows users to send Flickr photos as electronic greeting cards or postcards to friends and family. Lifelike Cards HD Version 1.9 includes the ability to create and save personal photo collections, which is achieved by selecting “My Collections” from the app’s top toolbar. From there, click the “+” icon. To create a new collection, first select a Collection Name and add the Flickr user or group for which to grab photos; adding tags or keywords further refines the collection. Finally, each collection is sorted by interest, date, or relevance. Each Collection is shown on the app’s signature authentic looking postcard rack. It even turns when you swipe your fingers in either direction (along with a squeaking sound). Each side of the rack includes up to 20 photos.

Unfortunately, you can only grab one user or group. In other words, you cannot select photos from multiple locations on Flickr. Hopefully, this limitation is corrected in a future app update.

In addition to the personal collections, Lifelike Cards HD Version 1.9 features a selection of Father’s Day cards. This continues the developer’s tradition of changing the app for each approaching holiday or season. This is definitely a nice touch. Lifelike Cards HD is a good app, and one I've used extensively. However, it relies almost exclusively on Yahoo’s Flickr service. In doing so, it’s appeal is limited. It would be nice to see future updates include the ability to grab photos from Instagram, Picasa, or Dropbox, to name three examples. Even adding these feeds as separate in-app purchases would add value for the user, in my opinion. Priced at $3.99, Lifelike Cards HD is available now in the App Store.
