If you enjoyed any of the Galaxy on Fire titles on the App Store, but want something more focused on trading and exploration instead of just dog-fighting combat, try Warpgate or Warpgate HD on the iPad. The game offers great visuals, lots of exploration and many different upgrades to find throughout various star systems. The game has been out for quite some time and was also hailed as the 3D space shooter to own on the iDevices before Galaxy On Fire 2 took away some of the attention. However, it does offer its own unique take on the genre with a lot of different things to do in the game, such as: fighting, trading, exploration, transferring legal or illicit goods, and upgrading ships. The game is quite massive as well (taken from app description):
Rule the universe. Dominate commodity markets - legal or illegal. Condemn your enemies and explore the vast reaches of the universe. Aliens and Pirates: will they be your allies or foes? Risk it all to explore expand exploit and exterminate throughout the galaxy! Warpgate offers a vast cosmos of over 35 star-systems to explore in 172 different starships with over 100 main quests. Groundbreaking galactic graphics, fluid controls, and endless non-quest missions mean there is no limit to your adventure! Warpgate is perfect for the Apple iPad's large, detailed screen and intuitive touch controls and promises an amazingly immersive experience.Keep in mind that the game is free, but does offer many in-app purchases for credits, including one IAP for a battlecruiser spaceship. You can grab Warpgate for the iPhone, as well as the iPad version, Warpgate HD for free on the App Store.
