Woodstock: The Must-Have iPad App

Woodstock: The Must-Have iPad App

May 10, 2011
Generations are largely defined by events. For those born following World War II (i.e. the baby boomers), that event for many was the Woodstock Festival.  Now a new iPad app has arrived that tries to explain what Woodstock was and how it changed those who took part. With it, iPad owners of all ages can enjoy great music, videos, and an amazing collection of photos. Created by 955 Dreams, On the way to Woodstock, is less about a three day festival held in Bethel, New York in August 1969. But rather, a living tribute to the entire baby boomer generation. Your journey begins in the 1950s, a period that saw the rise of the American middle class and emergence on the scene of Walt Disney, McDonalds, and Sputnik. The 1960s follows, when the 700 million children from the post-war baby boom become teenagers and young adults. Social change, Barbie Dolls, and, of course, the events surrounding Vietnam play an active role during this decade. From here, we learn in detail about how the Woodstock Festival came into being. Included are profiles of Michael Lang and Artie Kornfeld, the festival’s co-creators, plus a look at Max Yasgur, owner of the 600-acre dairy farm where the festival would be held. Naturally, much of what makes On the way to Woodstock enjoyable are the details about the festival itself.  Nine sections are included here covering everything from the festival’s beginning number to its “Face Melting Finale." Along the way, you'll learn about each of the performers and about those attending the event. Finally, three sections look at what happened after the party was over. Included here is information on the Altamont Free Concert, The Rolling Stones, and more. Features include:
  • Effortlessly experience the essence of life in the 50's and 60's featuring family life, social changes, politics, music and culture.
  • Dive deep into the topics and personalities of the time with videos and thoughtful narratives.
  • Immerse yourself in artists from Buddy Holly to Jimi Hendrix, each featured in individual sections filled photos, videos, even essential songs and albums.
  • Enjoy over 100 rare photos from one of the only Woodstock photographers who managed to have color film at the festival
  • Explore the characters and artists that chose not to play the festival
  • AirPlay support for videos so you can stream audio directly to your Hi-Fi speakers or audio/video to your Apple TV
  • Over 45 hours of video content diligently categorized and organized for your viewing pleasure
  • The ScreenSaver that allows your app to behave like the perfect coffee table book
It should be stressed that On the way to Woodstock isn't just for those old enough to remember the event. Rather, consider it an opportunity for anyone who is interested to live through two of the most interesting decades in America that cumulated with a musical event attended by thousands. On the way to Woodstock comes highly recommended and is available now for $6.99 in the App Store.
