Angry Birds Gearing Up For Living Room And Multiplex Debut

June 28, 2011
What does Iron Man and those pesky Angry Birds have in common? Quite a bit actually, now that Rovio has announced the Iron Man 2 executive producer is helping the company launch Angry Birds movies and television projects, according to The Next Web. David Maisel, the former Chairman of Marvel Studios and leader of Marvel’s acquisition by Disney will serve as Rovio’s special advisor as it transitions into film and television. During his introduction, Maisel stated:
“I’m very honored and excited to join Rovio, and my goal is to help unleash its great potential. Rovio has already had amazing success and established a great brand with Angry Birds. The business model, intellectual properties, and the franchise potential of Angry Birds give Rovio the most exciting prospects I have seen in the entertainment business since Marvel in 2003.”
Angry Birds games have been downloaded 250 million times across multiple platforms. It will be interesting to see if Rovio can take this success and move it into our living rooms and movie theaters. What are your thoughts? Can Angry Birds transition successfully into other media? Let us know by using the comments below.
