Take Control Of Your Computer From Your iDevice
Remote Conductor: Track - Launch - Switch (Touchpad / Secure Keyboard) ($1.99) by m3me, Inc. allows users to remotely control their computer from their iDevice over a WiFi connection. Unlike other remote mouse type apps, Remote Conductor can access your computer’s Application folder and switch between active programs on the iDevice screen.
The app does not display an image of your computer’s screen, which would be too small to be useful on an iPhone or iPod, instead it has several buttons around the perimeter of the screen that are used to access all its functions. The radio tower in the top left corner displays the server that your iDevice is connected to. The rocket icon opens up your computers Application folder. It displays your computer’s Applications in an iOS menu format where you scroll to the right/left instead of up/down. The light switch displays all of the programs currently running on your computer. Scroll through different programs by going left or right. Multiple windows in one program are shown above or below that programs original window. Running programs also display a small icon with a preview of what the screen looks like and the program’s logo.
On the bottom of the screen there is a keyboard icon that brings up, yep you guessed it, a keyboard. There is also the settings icon where you can customize app settings. In the settings menu, you can also customize the gestures used in the app. Many of these gestures are comparable to trackpad gestures, a feature I have yet to see in other apps of this kind.
To use Remote Conductor, the app must be installed on your iDevice and the server must be installed on your computer. The server can be downloaded for free and only takes seconds to install; so it’s pretty hassle free.
The ability to open new programs from your computer’s application folder is very useful. Most other apps of this kind do not allow you to do this from your iDevice’s screen. Overall, Remote Conductor is a very useful app, if you don’t already have a remote controlling app I suggest you check this one out in the App Store.
