Google Enhances Its Home Screen For Mobile Users
June 16, 2011
One day after Google released a set of new tools for iPhone and iPad users comes word it has also changed its mobile home page. Now when you visit google.com using Mobile Safari, you are greeted with four icons right below the search field: Restaurants, Coffee, Bars, and More. The folks at 9 To 5 Mac first discovered these icons.
With its Android product, Google is Apple’s main competitor in the mobile computing arena. Still, that doesn’t mean the company forgets about its iOS customers. Through the release of native apps and web app tweaks, the search giant is always evolving, despite the ongoing Android vs. iOS knockdown.
Case in point is the modest change welcoming mobile visitors to google.com. Each of the four icons mentioned above offer visitors a direct link to local businesses offering food, coffee, and booze.
Not enough? Under More, users will find Fast Food, What’s Nearby, Shops, ATMs and Gas Stations.
Places are browsed in either list or map view and include photos, reviews, phone numbers and more.
Google’s mobile enhancements are a nice touch, especially for those on the road.
