The Game That Defies Logic
Magic Tiles ($0.99) by Chengzhi Yang is a game that results in major head scratching. The objective of the game is to eliminate matching colored tiles by selecting blank areas on the grid adjacent to them. Selecting an incorrect space results in an error sound and a quicker decrease of allotted time. That’s about the only coherent information I can glean from this app.
The help option on the main screen explains the simple rule for gameplay “Tap blank grid.” Cool, I can do that. “1, 2, and 3 will be eliminate, cuz they has same color.” (sic) Right. This rule fails to address how the tiles are really supposed to be matched. Sometimes I had three tiles disappear, with only two of them being the same color, and other times tiles on nearly the other side of the grid would disappear.
Okay, how about the timer? Surely that has to be pretty straightforward. “You Have (sic) 120 seconds to play.” This is only partially true. The timer counts down, but the more you select wrong spots, the faster it decreases. It’s a true 120 seconds if you guess only the correct blank spots, or do nothing. Frankly, “nothing” seems like the better choice.
Why are they magic tiles? Not a clue. What strategy works best for this game? I don’t know. Are there multiple levels? I can’t even last a true 120 seconds, so I have no idea what’s next. In the end, I’ve learned that if one doesn’t have anything nice to say, then one should talk about the weather. So yeah, looks like it might rain tomorrow.
