We recently received a message from Jeff McCord, creator of the legendary Fargoal franchise. He informed us that he, along with the Trouble Brothers iDevice development team, have announced the release date of their upcoming iPad-exclusive title, Cargo Runners. The game will be arriving this Thursday, June 30 on the App Store.
Cargo Runners is a perfect fit on the iPad and its larger display because it is designed as a traditional board game. However, this isn't a port of a traditional board game, but one exclusively designed to be played on the iPad.
"We have set out to recreate the experience of playing a classic board game on electronic devices, played either around the device or through Online Multiplayer using Game Center. Rather than implementing a pre-existing board game design, we are releasing Cargo Runners as a never-before-seen game about international commerce on the high seas — right on the iPad before it is been anywhere in printed form!!" the team said in an email.
The game has a visually pleasing and detailed world map with different continents for you to send your cargo to. The Trouble Brothers website describes some of the mechanics players can look forward to, as well as the team's inspiration behind the title:
Cargo Runners is a traditional board game with a light German feel that has been originally designed and created for tablet play. We have a gorgeous board that harkens back to the great games of the 1950s and 60s but the play is loose, fast and fun. Dice roll and you throttle up as your ship sets course – it’s Monopoly® meets Risk® and you’ll never think the same way about board games again.Look for Cargo Runners this Thursday for $7.99 on the iPad.
