Lettrixx ($1.99) by Flapcat LLC is a word puzzle game that utilizes the imagery of The Matrix as the background for the plot. Saving artificially intelligent life forms has never been so easy. All you need is a good vocabulary and quick responses.

Word puzzle games come in all different varieties on iDevices, each one with its own clever story or interesting feature. Lettrixx is no exception. The game is cute and fun, and scratches the fanboy itch in all of us.

The game opens with the main menu, which looks like the computer visual of the world in "The Matrix." Instead of numbers, though, there are letters. When you read the tutorial, you learn about the Lumins and how they are caught in the Lettrixx and need your help getting out. As you spell words, you must choose letters that have Bug letters, Lumin letters and Time letters. The point of the game is to rescue as many Lumins as possible within the given time.

The game is easy to play. Words are not difficult to put together, and when you finally run out of time, you feel good about your accomplishments as you watch the rescued Lumins run to freedom. You can post your score on Facebook and Twitter for additional pats on the back.

Although the game is a fun way to spend a few hours, it seems about one dollar too expensive. Lettrixx seems more like a $0.99 game to me. I’d suggest waiting until it goes on sale, unless you have been looking for a new word puzzle game to fill the void in your life. If that’s the case, I’d say it's worth the current price.
