"PhoneIt-iPad" Now Available For Jailbroken iPads, Makes Your Tablet A Big Cell Phone
June 13, 2011
From our friends over at RazorianFly, we just got word that the much-anticipated PhoneIt-iPad is now available (via Cydia) for jailbroken first-generation 3G iPads.
Developed by iPhoneIslam, the app finally allows iPad owners to use their slate like a mobile phone. SMS is fully supported, too, though MMS has yet to be worked out. Additionally, there are some hoops to jump through in order to get things working.
PhoneIt-iPad is free to download, but it will not be functionally enabled until you activate your copy via iPhoneIslam's product website for $20.00. Also, buyers must be sure to use a SIM card that allows for voice, so that data-only SIM that shipped in your AT&T iPad will not work. For all the other "fine print," it's probably best you access the app's FAQs (located at the aforesaid page).
If you're on the fence about PhoneIt-iPad, you'll probably remain there for a couple of days while early adopters grab the app and whip up their reviews. Still, in the meantime, here's a video to whet your whistle:
