Receive Notifications Quickly And Easily With Alert
Alert (Free) by 1663 Design LLC is a free, "bare bones" notification app for the iPhone. It has one purpose: to quickly add tasks and remind you of them later.
Some people may want a simple alert app that does nothing but, well, alert them. Personally, I just use OmniFocus for everything, including reminders. Most people have their own task managers for their iPhone or use the built in reminders with whichever calendar app they use. But some may want something simpler.
Alert does just what it says; it alerts you and nothing more. You're presented with a screen — which, by the way, includes ads — to quickly type in your reminder. You can also choose from a list of preset times for the app to remind you or create your own custom alert time.
That's it. That's all. Pretty simple, right?
Now, onto the negative aspects. There is no multitasking support. This is incredibly unfortunate; it pains me deep inside every time I find an app that does not take advantage of this feature.
Along with that downfall, there is some minor lag when clicking a button to advance to more options and there are no badge icons. It does, however, successfully alert you. It has that going for it.
It's a free app, so you really have nothing to lose. If you feel the urge to try it out despite some minor bugs, go for it. I'm just not that impressed with it as I am spoiled by bigger and better things.
If you need a reminder app, without all the bells and whistles, Alert may be just the right fit for you. After all, it does what it sets out to do and never failed me in that aspect. Unfortunately, it's just not polished enough for my own taste. I couldn't get past the ads and tiny glitches.
