With apps of this nature, there is a fine line between making the scenes so simplistic that no challenge is presented at all, and making the scenes too complex. This app, however, walks that line well.
Seven cartoon aliens visit Earth in a UFO, looking for someone to play hide and seek with them. They hide behind trees and bushes, and the hunt begins. The first level is the spaceship landing site in an open field, so finding the aliens is not difficult. However, as the levels progress, more animated characters appear and the scenery becomes more dense.
Even though the aliens have an other-worldly appearance, they actually blend in well with the animated and playful scenery. Sometimes the aliens don’t even hide, and they’re still not immediately noticeable. When my 2-year-old daughter first saw the aliens hide, she raised her hands and questioned, “Where’d they go?” She enjoyed exploring each scene for the hidden aliens.
The design is pleasing to the eye. The menu’s background has smooth wooden paneling; the aliens and scenes are colorful and lively. Each alien emits a chirpy little squeak noise when discovered. There are also background sounds that immerse the player in the fictional backdrop.
I highly recommend this app for those who don’t mind their toddler playing on the iPad. Who knows? Even the adults might end up trying to find the aliens.
