QuickAdvice: QuickPics Ultimate Is A Feature-Loaded Camera App
Quickpics Ultimate ($2.99) by Protech1inc packs a whole lot into one app. Quickpics is a universal all-in-one camera app with huge selection of tools. In this app, you can take pictures in single or burst mode, even while taking video at the same time. You can also edit your photos and add a number of special effects. With this app on your iDevice, you really could delete quite a few others.
Let’s start with the camera function. Set it to take single or burst photos. Tap anywhere on the screen to take a photo. This will work even while taking video. If you want to set a specific focal point, tap the focal icon first to select your spot, and then tap anywhere to take the photo. Other icons will turn your camera to front or back and set flash to on/off/auto as desired. Tap fx to preview nearly two dozen special effects live. These effects can be used live, like Photo Booth, or added after the fact. Kaleidoscope, cartoonize, sketch, hexize, and lots more.
Next, the Image Uploader and Library is where you can see what you’ve taken. You can access the photos and videos taken in-app as well as your iDevice’s photo library. Here you may add captions/titles and upload to your camera roll and/or social media outlets such as Facebook, YouTube, Photobucket, Picasa, Flickr, and more.
Now, check out the Image Editor. In addition to the Photo Booth-like effects mentioned above, you can also turn a photo into black and white and add back just a splash of color. You can do the same thing with a sketch effect, adding back just part of a photo. Adjust the brightness, saturation, contrast, and color. Clone, rotate, crop, shrink, and add borders or vignettes. Remove blemishes, change eye color, apply a “tan”, whiten teeth, and remove wrinkles!
QuickPics does everything it claims it will, though the UI is a bit clunky, in my opinion. It is not overly attractive, nor is it particularly intuitive or easy to use. That said, if you can take the time to learn it, you’ll get quite a tool in your photography arsenal. And even better, after discussing the app’s shortcomings with the developer, he immediately started working on an update to improve the UI. So stay tuned!
Though it’s not the cheapest photography app, there is a free ad-supported lite version, which allows you to edit and upload up to ten photos for free. The pictures will be watermarked with their logo. I recommend trying out the free version to be sure you like the way QuickPics works. The photos I included in this article were all taken from the free version, so you can see what the ads and the watermark look like. If you use up your ten free picture edits and want more, you can easily upgrade from within the app. You’ve got nothing to lose by trying it out!
And, even better, eight lucky winners get a copy of the full version for free! I’ll be posting eight promo codes once this article gets over to our Facebook page (be patient, this takes some time). First come, first served! Simply copy a code and paste it into the “Redeem” box in your iTunes account. If you do win one, please indicate in the comments which one you used, so other readers know which ones have been used up.
