Paint By The Numbers To Create Glittery Butterflies
Sticky Mosaics Butterflies ($2.99) by EverAge is the perfect app for 6 to 9-year-old girls. Mosaic tiles need to be placed on a butterfly in a paint-by-numbers fashion. The butterfly then comes to life when it is completed. Full of sparkling tiles and glittery music, this app will certainly appeal to young girls with enough patience to fill in every square.
The home screen has four butterflies to select, each with their own unique design pattern. Once the butterfly is chosen you are greeted by an outline of it, filled with tiny white boxes with numbers in them. The numbers range from one to 13, and each one represents a mosaic tile in the box below the butterfly. The tiles are colored squares and rhinestone jewelry that glitter. They make a chirpy “ta-da” sound when placed correctly.
Once the butterfly is filled in completely, it comes to life and flies around on the screen. Touching the screen will make the butterfly sit on your finger, and you can then move the butterfly around, as if it was actually holding on.
I must admit that I was daunted when I saw all those white squares waiting to be filled. They were so tiny I thought it would take pin-point accuracy to place the tiles correctly on them. However, the squares are pretty forgiving. You can drag a tile pretty close to it before letting go, and it will be taken in.
For me, it took about 15 minutes of dragging and dropping tiles. Being a guy (read: “not playing with things the way they were meant to”), I decided to see how quickly I could sling the tiles into place. The app crashed and my five minutes worth of work was lost.
There is no thinking involved with this app, but there really doesn’t need to be. It’s just a fun way for young girls to make sparkling butterflies.
