Stratus Is The iOS Client For Accessing CloudApp On-The-Go

Stratus (Free) by Jeff Broderick is a CloudApp client for your iPhone and iPad.

Let's get one thing straight: I love CloudApp. I think it's one of the best ways to share files and links with others, especially when it comes to sites like Twitter. For a long time, I've been using Cloud2go on my iPhone to access my CloudApp account on-the-go, and on my iPad with BlueNube.

But now there's a universal app that makes the CloudApp experience complete on iOS. Meet Stratus.

Status is a beautiful CloudApp client for both your iPhone and iPad. The best part is that this app is completely free, with no ads. Almost sounds too good to be true, right? But some of the best things in life actually are free, like this app.

First thing's first, you'll have to log in to your CloudApp account. Once that's done, you'll be taken to see all of your uploads. In the All Uploads view, you'll have items that are organized by date (Today, Older, etc). Each item will also be shown with an icon to represent what kind of item it is, like an image or a link. Stratus will also show you the name of the item as well as how many views it has.

The view count is updated in real-time, so whenever it's getting a new view, you'll be able to see it update continuously.

Going back to the main screen of the app, you'll have the All and Trash sections at the top, and then all the various file types below. The file types will include Images, Bookmarks, Text, Archives, Audio, Video, and Other. It's like the other CloudApp clients we've reviewed.

For a new upload, simply tap that big + button at the top corner. This gives you the option for Clipboard, Take a Photo, or Media from Library. Once your item is selected, you will see it being uploaded in real-time thanks to a progress bar at the bottom. The device will vibrate to let you know it's complete.

Tapping on an item will allow you to view it, save it, delete it, or copy the link to it. The "i" button will show you information such as the day it was uploaded, file size, dimensions, and views.

As far as these features go, it's your typical CloudApp fare. The Settings give you a bit more flexibility though. You can manage your accounts from here, and even choose whether your link privacy is public (short) or private (long). The password to your account can even be changed from within the app.

Stratus is well-designed and beautiful to look at. It borrows some elements from Apple's Human Interface Guidelines, but most of it is a custom design that just works. It has a very nice overall feel to it.

I did experience some crashes during my testing of the app, mostly after my first few uploads. However, after quitting the app and restarting it, I did not experience this problem anymore.

If you're a CloudApp user that appreciates good design, then definitely download Stratus. It can only get better over time, and it has already replaced my previous two CloudApp clients. And for the price of free, what have you got to lose with this download?
