Quirky App Of The Day: Angry Elf

June 10, 2011
Many people seek out the advice of someone older and wiser than they are. In some older myths in Greek literature, those seeking enlightenment and knowledge climbed steep mountains and crossed dangerous seas to come to oracles from the gods. In fact, we have modern spoofs and comics of the young person who climbs a mountain to seek the guidance of an old man sitting beneath a tree. It's in our culture. So, why not have an app for it? The Angry Elf is a grumpy old elf who spouts off random answers to your deepest, most disturbing questions. He seems to know what he's talking about. I mean, when I asked him if I was a girl, he told me that I wasn't ready to hear the answer yet. I guess that after twenty-five years, the elf knows best. He apparently does not like being touched though. Poke him or his tree and he will treat you to a variety of snappy comebacks. He reminds me of Gandalf as far as crankiness goes. With a magical burst of sparkles, he tells you to either watch where you're touching, or to touch a little lower. Somehow, my finger feels a little dirty after he says that. There are dozens of phrases that The Angry Elf spouts off. It's like having a cranky Magic Eight Ball. True, his answers aren't anywhere near question specific. I will admitting to asking a question with the word "sex" in it to try and see if it had word recognition. It doesn't. He responded with the word "Seattle." Unless he's suggesting the best city to hook up in, I'm sure his answers are just random. The Angry Elf is available at iTunes for the awesome price of FREE!
