Robo Loves To Surf But Water Is His Demise
Robo Surf ($0.99) by Pieces Interactive AB shows us that robots and water and an unlikely match that can prove a a lot of fun. Gotten tired of Tiny Birds but you still like the concept? Well, while Robo Surf didn’t strike me as similar right away, it does bear some of the same ideas. It’s summer time and water-themed apps are going to be coming out over the next few months.
Gameplay involves a robot catching some waves. Of course, everyone knows that technology and water just don’t mix, so he must avoid falling into the water. By touching the screen you can control how high or low he rides the waves. Don’t let him get too low or he will fall in and it’s game over for him.
There are more perils that just sinking too low on a wave for our cute little robot. He must avoid birds, blow fish, sharks, bats and more while at the same time catching cans of oil to keep himself fueled and rearing to go.
For you achievement junkies out there, Robo Surf currently offers 35 challenges to complete. There are also leader boards so you can compete against your friends. The game is challenging, but not too challenging. I hope to see more achievements added in the future.
Allow me to share one hint I found helpful: Unlike Tiny Wings, this game doesn’t work well with a single touch. I found quickly tapping the screen the best way to control the waves in this game. It’s harder than it sounds! See how far your finger can take Robo on the waves.
In the future, I would love to see a multiplayer option over wifi and bluetooth. It would be fun to race friends with a split screen and see who can avoid the most perils in a set time period.
Robo Surf is a universal app so you can enjoy it on your iPhone and iPad. It looks and works great on both!
