Street Fighter IV Volt Hits The App Store

June 30, 2011
The latest spinoff of the iOS hit Street Fighter IV from Capcom has hit the NZ App Store and should be available in the U.S. at 11 p.m. EST and Europe at around 12 a.m. GMT. This version of the game is called Street Fighter IV Volt and should definitely be of interest for fighting fans and even those who already own the standard version of the game. The game, like its predecessor, appears to have a similar mix of 2D backgrounds with 3D-looking characters. There are also various camera touches added to make it seem more like the console (and 3DS) versions. The game will also use a four button control system with various special moves available for players to utilize in battle. There will also be a virtual joystick with eight directional movements for players to use. The main additions to this new edition of the game include multiplayer over Wi-Fi and a couple of new characters thrown in. Balrog, Vega and Cody are now playable characters bringing the total number to 17 in this version. The game is still a native iPhone app, but is playable on the iPad as well. Here is a list of features to look for in the title (taken from the app description):

  • Seventeen playable characters including three never available on iOS before – Balrog, Vega and Cody
  • Battle against friends via Bluetooth and for the first time via WiFi!
  • Traditional "2D" Street Fighter gameplay perfected for the iPhone.
  • Robust move sets including Unique Attacks, Special Moves, EX Moves, Super Combos and Ultra Combos
  • Fully customizable “Visual Pad” control system. Place the D-pad and buttons anywhere on the screen.
  • Execute moves through multiple key combinations and shortcuts making the game accessible to casual players, while still challenging to hardcore fans.
  • Unlock special avatar bonuses as you play V.S. matches via WiFi and Bluetooth
Despite the visuals not being upgraded, the game is definitely a nice addition due to the online multiplayer options available. Tonight is also the perfect time to pick it up because it is starting out on an introductory sale price of just $.99. The NZ version is already available at a price of NZ $1.29, which should translate to USD $0.99.
