Touchgrind BMX Update Adds Retina Display Support
June 1, 2011
Touchgrind BMX had a very successful launch last week, receiving rave reviews from both critics and everyday app reviewers while also being featured as Apple's "iPhone Game of the Week" in the App Store. But not everything was rosy in Touchgrind BMX land, because not long after the game launched, users began to notice jagged edges in their otherwise gorgeous multitouch extreme sports game. The developer, Illusion Labs, quickly addressed the issue via Twitter, promising Retina display support in the next update. Well, that next update is already here!
Touchgrind BMX now features the ability to toggle Retina display support on and off via your iDevice's Settings app. The reason for this, according to Illusion Labs, is that those pretty graphics can cause the framerate to dip to unpleasant levels depending on the iDevice you are using.
To flip the Retina display switch for Touchgrind BMX, go into the Settings app, scroll down until you see "BMX" in the list, and then just tap on the listing and you'll find it conveniently placed at the top of the screen (see images below).
I've played my fair share of Touchgrind BMX on my iPhone 4, and I can honestly say that I have seen very little slowdown with Retina display support on; but if you are a framerate-obsessed gamer, you may want to steer clear of it until Illusion Labs has more time to optimize the game.
The latest update to Touchgrind BMX also fixed an apparent bug that caused the game to crash on launch.
Touchgrind BMX for iPhone and iPod touch is available in the App Store for $4.99.
