Walmart Announces Price Cut iPhone 4

June 6, 2011
Just before the start of the WWDC, Walmart announced they would sell the iPhone 4, 16 GB model for $147, that's $52 less than the normal $199 price tag. This price will be available for AT&T and Verizon iPhones with a two-year contract. Both black, as well as white models will be offered at this price through June 30. Walmart is notorious for price slashing popular items to stir up the market. Usually, iPhone price slashing only happens when there is the prediction of the release of a new model. As of now, there appear to be no plans for the unveiling of a new iPhone, which may be the reason why Walmart is only offering this price through the end of June. CNET writer Rick Broida is predicting the price drop may have to do with the possibility of Apple deciding to drop the price in a possible upcoming announcement. One may wonder if Walmart had exclusive insider knowledge enabling them to get a jump on the sales of an upcoming price drop. It seems logical for Apple to drop the price by $50 to $149.99 and in usual Walmart fashion, they will offer it for two dollars less. The offer is only available in select stores. Walmart’s website shows the iPhone 4 at the regular Walmart price of $197 and it shows “out of stock.” Maybe Walmart is trying to get a jump start on Father’s Day shopping.
