Allied Star Police Was Developed By A 9-Year-Old

The latest title to hit the App Store from publisher PopCap has an interesting story behind it, as Pocket Gamer describes. It was created by a 9-year-old boy, Owen Weinert, who also happens to be undergoing treatment for lymphocytic leukemia. The resulting game is called Allied Star Police and it has just been launched as a universal app on the App Store. The boy and the iOS game he was envisioning came to PopCap's attention through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It wasn't just PopCap that was responsible for helping Weinert, but a spinoff studio called 4th & Battery. Allied Star Police is a castle offense style of game where you send units in waves to take out enemy ranks, rather than defend a base like in standard castle defense games. You send your forces across lines above or below one another. "Send your vehicles quickly to take on their sinister swarms. Earn bigger, badder machines to fight back. Call in special bombs and missiles for extra-explosive mayhem," the app description states. If you want to help a boy make a difference by rewarding him for creating such an intriguing game, or if you just enjoy castle defense games, check out Allied Star Police. Allied Star Police is currently available on the App Store for free.
