AOL (Yes AOL) Just Released A Terrific Music App
July 13, 2011
Listening to music just got better thanks to the new PLAY by AOL Music app arriving today in the App Store. The free app allows you to not only play your own music using a remarkably fresh interface, but also stream other songs and full albums as well.
The end result is pretty amazing and even more so given it comes from AOL.
Few would argue that when the web was young, AOL was the hip place to be. Unfortunately, as the years have gone by, the service began bleeding customers and along with it, respect.
PLAY, however, might just make AOL cool again, at least for music fans.
The app is actually two products in one.
First, it is a custom music player that actually makes Apple’s own iPod app look pretty lame. Arranged by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, or Playlist, music is played over a clean background. It includes a beautiful view of the song’s album cover art along with its title, artist, and album name.
From here, songs are easily shared with others using Facebook or Twitter.
PLAY’s best feature is its ability to play music from its extensive collection of free songs and CD’s that are updated on a regular basic.
To find new music, click on the “Play” button at the bottom of the screen. Here slow-moving album covers are arranged. Pushing on an album shows its title and artist without leaving the page, while a quick click takes you to the album itself, where you can select the songs to play.
Full albums currently available include those by Radio Dead Ones, R.E.M., and Sick of Sarah, among others.
In addition, PLAY offers a fresh feed of MP3s from such artists as Cerebral Ballzy, Silver Swans, and Ivy.
Best of all, once you begin a song, it plays continuously no matter where you are within the app. The song will also play in the background when using other apps.
Other features include:
PLAY is a remarkable app and one that comes highly recommended. Not only is it a terrific way to find new music, but it also makes playing your own songs seem more refreshing. Finally, because PLAY by AOL Music is free, downloading it is a no-brainer. What do you think? Leave your comments below.
