Apple TV Apps Could Be Coming Soon

July 13, 2011
Apple TV could soon join the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad as being able to run native apps. This possibly has been reinforced thanks to some code uncovered in iOS 5 from a 9 To 5 Mac reader. For now, the Apple TV provides no Bluetooth support nor the ability to download apps. However, code within iOS 5 indicates that Apple TV users will soon have the ability to use Bluetooth with their iDevice. This means the Apple TV could soon connect to keyboards or other iDevices such as the iPhone or iPad. More importantly, however, this step could open up Apple’s $99 iDevice to the ability to download apps. According to 9 To 5 Mac's Mark Gurman:
App support was rumored for inclusion in this second generation Apple TV, and perhaps bluetooth accessory and keyboard support is a sign of apps still coming to the television through Apple’s device. Additionally, the Apple TV – a competitor to the Google TV – could benefit from more built-in apps like the Safari web browser. Perhaps with this new bluetooth support, and already existing WiFi support, Apple is putting together a web browser for the Apple TV.
Apple TV owners would be well served by getting Bluetooth support. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about this from Apple soon.
