DMBX - Mountain Biking ($1.99) by randerline gmbh is a time trial racing game that lets you earn extra points by collecting coins and performing special tricks. Using tilt controls, this game will have you kicking up dust while flying through the air like a pro.
There are 10 levels and 30 different challenges that you can unlock. Each level offers a different course and increases in difficulty along the way. There are eight different characters and also eight bikes to choose from. You must unlock all but the first two by collecting enough coins to buy them. The game has two modes, Quick Play and Career. In Quick Play, you are in a timed trial and must beat the clock to unlock new levels. In Career mode, you must collect coins, perform tricks and make it to the end of the course within a specified period of time.
Each level requires that you pass a timed test in order to unlock the next. If you fail to complete a course within the designated time, you cannot move on. You can watch your race by hitting the replay button. This feature will replay your most recent race from different camera angles.
The game runs a little slow and choppy at times. When you get to the end of a level, you must tap the pause button and then the continue button in order to move on. The tilt controls are a bit touchy, but those can be adjusted in the settings menu.
Overall, this game is not bad out of the gate. It needs a bit of polish, but has enough extra features to make it easy to overlook the shortcomings. Being able to play a time trial race, collect coins for bonuses and perform fancy tricks, all in one game makes it worth $1.99.
