Comment For A Chance To Win Free Copy Of Text-Condensing "trimit" App
July 7, 2011
We've teamed up with Frimby Limited to host a giveaway of three copies of the developer's new link-shortening, text-simplifying trimit app.
As stated in Christine's recent review, trimit
will summarize and condense any text you put in it for use on specific platforms with a certain length. From creating tweets to texts to Facebook posts and more, trimit uses a patent-pending system of advanced heuristics to cut down the length of your shared information. In addition, the app utilizes optional acronym, abbreviation, and vowel toggles to further reduce your content's footprint. However, trimit doesn't always work as expected. For example, I used the body of this post as my source for the app's conversion, and -- using the 140-character Twitter setting -- here's what I got:
We've teamed up with Frimby Limited 2 host a giveaway of three copies of the developer's new link-shortening, text-simplifying trimit app.As you can see, with longer pieces such as traditional blog entries and other prose, there's not much the app can do. In this case, the gist of the article made it through the translation, but that's only because I explained the post's purpose at the outset. Still, longer stories aren't really the point. trimit, designed for social output, seems also designed for social input. Say your friend sends you a longish story over three or four texts, and you want to briefly share the tale. Simply post the texts into trimit's entry field and select your output preference. Utilized this way, the app actually does work. It would be nice to see the developers build up their app's lengthier processing abilities, but, honestly, any such reliable mechanism is probably many years (and many industry awards) away. If you'd like a chance to win one of our three promo codes, leave a concise -- but descriptive and telling -- response in the comments below. Be clever, and be brief. For those of you who don't make the cut (what a pun!), consider grabbing trimit in iTunes for a buck before the price goes up to five.
