July 29, 2011
Definition, the popular dictionary app, has received a significant update. The app now includes the ability to search for words offline. Created by Sidwyn Koh, Definition is your all-in-one solution to finding words. As you begin typing in a word, the app automatically begins making word suggestions. Once you find the word you’ve been looking for, click on it and the magic begins. Definition isn’t just a dictionary. In addition to offering word definitions, the app also includes synonyms and antonyms. Example sentences are also included. Confused how to pronounce a word? Click on the voice icon and the app will instantly read it back to you in clear. Definition Version 4.0 finally brings offline support, meaning you can always find a word even when you don’t have a Wi-Fi or 3G connection.

Other features include:
  • Swipe for different definitions
  • Bookmark a word to save for later use
  • Shake for a random word
  • Share a word (email, Facebook, Twitter)
  • History of words
  • Export your history or bookmarks
  • Clipboard feature - define a word in your clipboard
  • Compare two words (iPad only)
  • Define in Safari (type define://YOURWORD)
Definition is a terrific app and definitely comes highly recommended. It is available for $2.99 in the App Store.
