Flipboard App Now Includes Ads

July 26, 2011
One of the top iPad news apps, Flipboard, has quietly begun displaying ads in its pages. This move comes after the San Francisco, California-based company recently inked a deal with magazine publisher Condé Nast, according to news first reported by Mashable. First released in 2010, Flipboard gives users a one-stop location for content from a large number of providers including ABC News, Oprah Winfrey, and Wired Magazine, among others. Until today, however, the startup had no revenue model even though it has brought on a number of high profile official partners. The first ad, appearing this week, is for American Express that is also featured on Condé Nast’s The New Yorker website. In October, Flipboard will launch Lexus ads that will also be available in The New Yorker, Wired, and Bon Appetit. The free Flipboard app is available in the App Store.
