Mad Penguins Are Getting Their Revenge In This New iPhone Puzzler
Mad Penguins ($0.99) by Richard Amburgo is a cute new puzzle game for your iPhone that has all the makings of an App Store hit. There are birds, and they have been offended. Ring a bell anyone?
The game begins with a comic book story line. Basically, the red birds are bullying the penguins because they cannot fly. But all hope is not lost! The penguins miraculously come across jet packs and snowball guns and decide that it is time to exact their revenge. Each level has penguins and red birds, and it is your job to correctly position the penguins so they can destroy the red bully birds.
The controls are very simple. The penguin with the “S” fires the snowball gun. Snowballs follow the red lines from penguin to penguin, destroying all the red birds in their path. To complete each level, drag the penguins so that the red lines run through all the red birds. A green dot will appear inside birds that are in the line of fire. When the penguins red lines connect all the birds a fire button will appear in the top right hand corner of the screen. Tap this to start the snowball gun. After completing each level, a box appears telling how you how long it took you to find the solution.
The game is challenging but not impossible. The first few levels are really easy and then they get harder. There are 24 levels in the first area, and five areas in total. Area four is still under construction and scheduled to be released in August. But area five is available, which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Currently, Mad Penguins does not support GameCenter or OpenFeint leaderboards.
Overall, I find Mad Penguins to be a highly entertaining puzzle game for iPhones. It has cute characters, challenging puzzles and easy controls, what’s not to love? Angry Birds, watch out! Mad Penguins are on the loose!
