MTV Push, Now Available For The iPhone And iPod touch
MTV PUSH (Free) by MTV Networks is a music discovery app from the biggest name in the music video industry. Strangely, there are no music videos to be found in this app.
The point of MTV Push is to help you discover new music by spotlighting lesser-known artists. P.U.S.H is an acronym for Play Until Someone Hears (a little forced if you ask me). MTV will spotlight a new Push artist each week while keeping you informed on previously spotlighted bands as well. For any given artist, you can access current news, their bio, photos, listen to clips of their songs, buy songs, and watch video clips of interviews.
In addition to the current Push artist, there are over 40 previously spotlighted bands for you to catch up on. You can also access MTVs long list of news, videos (not music videos), photos, bios and songs from a plethora of the most popular artists. You can also read music-related headline MTV news, visit MTV-related blogs like Buzzworthy, or do a direct search for an artist or band.
You may have noticed my biggest complaint with this app. You would think that the most popular music video channel in the world would have music videos in their app. I know that the cable channel has changed a lot over the years and offers much more in the way of music entertainment, but the company was founded on the concept of music videos. I am very disappointed that this app does not include a single music video, at least it didn't from the many searches that I performed.
Overall, this is a fairly comprehensive, feature-packed app that will help users learn about new and upcoming artists with simplicity and ease. Unfortunately, there are no music videos in this MTV-created app (go figure), but other than that glaring omission, this is a must-have app for anyone with their finger on the pulse of today’s top artists, and tomorrow’s breakout hits.
