New MovieCam App Makes iPad 2 Videos Look Better

July 7, 2011
The iPad 2 will never be mistaken for being an exceptional video camera, but a new app does make it a little bit better. MovieCam, which is advertised as the most powerful camcorder app for the iPad 2, has arrived and with it users can add video features missing from Apple’s own Camera app. Created by Digital Staircase, Inc., the $2.99 app is a simple, yet powerful tool for amateur videographers. With it, customers can add up to nine different movie effect presets, including Vintage, Romantic, and Video Game. Selecting an effect is as easy as clicking the wand in the lower left-hand corner of the viewfinder screen and selecting one of the presets; each which are updated in real-time. Best of all, effect changes may be made while recording, as necessary. In addition, the app supports 8x digital zoon (for each effect), plus pause video/audio recording, and continue later functionality. Other features include:
  • DVD quality or hi-def(720p) recording options
  • Advanced controls to fine-tune every effect
  • Supports back-facing and front-facing cameras (720p only supported for back-facing camera)

Neither of the iPad 2's cameras are great, but MovieCam does make the videos it takes better looking. And for just $2.99, the app is definitely worth checking out. What do you think? Leave your comments below.
