Photo Movie Creator Lets You Create And Share Slideshows

July 16, 2011

photo movie creator ($1.99) by Sony Digital Network Applications, Inc. is a photography app that lets you create slideshows of your photos, complete with music and themed backgrounds. Once you have created your mini-movie, you can upload it to Facebook for your friends and family to view.

To create a slideshow, just pick the “create movie” option and all photos in your camera roll will appear. You can chose to have a random selection of pictures from you entire library, or you can select them via event, term or location. In event, you can choose photos that you have already categorized in your library. If you are too lazy to do that, you can also select photos based on a particular period of time in the term feature. You can select between one to six days, one to three weeks, one or three months, a half of a year and one year.

If you took a week long road trip to visit grandma and documented your trip along the way, you can select that period of time to create your slide show. In the location feature, you can choose photos based on where they were taken. If you spend the weekend in San Francisco, you could create a slide show of your trip from photos that were taken in that particular city. Once you have finished your creation you can easily upload it to Facebook by logging into your account from within the app. Friends and family can view and comment on it.

While this is a really fun way to show off your photos, there are a lot of things wrong with it. The user interface is fairly plain. There is a significant lag time, between photo loads, causing the music to stop and detracting from the whole slideshow experience. The app crashed twice while I was using it. The song options are limited and I didn’t particularly like any of them. The summary page in the App Store mentions that you can use songs from your own music library when viewing it on your iDevice, but I never found that option.
