Defend Earth In The Last Few Minutes From Alien Invaders With Flick Rocket
Flick Rocket ($0.99) by Binary Square, Inc. is a retro arcade shooter that will immediately satisfy your craving for games like Space Invaders and Centipede.
Remember those days where you would spend hours on these arcade games? Ok, maybe some of you won't know what I'm talking about, but that's okay. Flick Rocket reinvigorates the retro arcade gaming fun by making use of the touch screen controls.
Upon launch, you'll be greeted with a brief introduction to the game -- aliens are attacking our home, Earth, without mercy. In this most desperate hour, your job is to defend the alien attacks as much as possible by blowing them up. The graphics are very retro and even remind me of the Lite-Brite from the old days.
The gameplay is simple -- simply defend the cities of Earth as long as you can. Doom is imminent, but it doesn't hurt to try and grasp on to those last few moments on Earth by fighting back. Controls are even simpler -- just flick your finger in the direction you want to shoot the rocket. That's it. Simple, right?
Currently, there are two game modes: Arcade and Campaign.
Arcade is pretty much a mix of various levels from the three main cities that you must defend, and you must survive as long as you can.
Campaign is like Arcade, except that you pick from specific cities from around the world. Each city has its own specific type of alien attack. Tokyo, Japan has the Space Invaders type of attack; Paris, France has the Centipede type of attack; and Los Angeles has a Missile Command type of attack. The goal for each is still the same as Arcade mode -- survive as long as possible. This mode is great if you have a certain preference for your retro alien-shooter game.
In both Arcade and Campaign mode, you will get bonus points for clearing the stage and how many towers are still remaining post-attack. As you flick your rockets to lay waste to the alien invaders, there will be occasional power-ups like time-freezing to help you survive.
Game Center is supported, though it's currently only for leaderboards. The developers seem to be working on achievements though, so keep an eye out for that. In addition to that, there is a third mode that will be coming soon.
Flick Rockets is a simple and fun game, and is a great homage to the old school arcade shooters that we used to grow up with. The graphics are great and definitely retro, the music is some of the best I've ever heard for a game, and the gameplay is simple yet challenging.
This is a great pick-up-and-play game, but I intend to spend a lot more time with it rather than just those few minutes waiting in line at the grocery store. If you have a dollar, do yourself a favor and pick up this awesome retro game.
Flick Rocket is a universal app for both your iPhone and iPad.
