Live Into The Future By Putting Your Head In A Jar

July 26, 2011

Futurama Head in a Jar (Free) by MTV Networks gives Futurama fans something new to drool over (as if returning from the dead wasn’t enough).

All of the app looks as if it belongs in the show. The animations, the font, and even the sounds all compliment the show’s look. Features include video clips from episodes in the current season, a head museum, and online items relating to the show. However, the main attraction is creating your own head in a jar.

First you select one of four species, including: male, female, robot, or alien. Each class has its own items to add, such as head shape, eyes, nose, hair, and extras (such as shades or even a stylish goatee). Swipe across the head to swap out the different items. Red arrows will show near areas that have multiple options to choose. Finally, give your head a name and a scene for behind it. Your jar fills with water and you’re good to go.

The Head Museum allows you to look at your whole library of heads, or select individual exhibits. An exhibit is a category you can make to display any heads you’ve assigned to it (i.e. “Chumps and Chumpettes”). Don’t want a head in the museum anymore? Touch and hold for the jar to assume the app-jiggle-effect, complete with a red minus circle.

So how does this app stack up? While it’s cool to make your own heads like those on the show, the novelty of it dies quickly. You can share your finalized head on Facebook, Twitter, or via email, which can be fun for a while. Maybe there would be more longevity if Comedy Central hosted a head in a jar contest.

However, if you’re a Futurama fan, you owe it to the show to at least try out this app. The Hypnotoad commands you!
