Jumping Is The Next Best Thing For A Broken Jet Pack
Jump Pack (Free) by Secret Headquarters, Inc makes use of your iDevice’s gyroscope to move your character in this endless jumper game.
The icon of this app features a character in a pose reminiscent of the movie poster for Disney’s The Rocketeer. I’m currently playing TurtleFly, so I expected a combination of that and Rocketeer. However, the game is more similar to Doodle Jump. That’s not to say I’m disappointed.
Your character's jet pack is low on fuel, so the best you can do are short bursts in order to get on the platforms above you. Some platforms will give you an extra spring, or even a “mega blast,” but others are laced with spikes or bombs. The levels are randomized, meaning the game will never be the same experience twice.
Green gems can be collected while you jump. These gems serve as currency to be used in the game’s store. You can unlock other levels or customize your character right down to the color of their clothes. Other upgrades improve your character’s abilities.
The industrial look and feel works well for the game’s theme. The techno music also adds to the game’s aesthetic. I have to admit that I’ll mute most iOS games. In general it’s fun to listen to the music for a while, but then it gets repetitive. Not so with this game. I left the sound on the whole time. The music motivated me to reach that next platform.
What didn’t appeal to me about this game was that a platform is gone the moment it leaves the bottom of your screen. The game is pretty unforgiving if you miss a step. Also, there are arrow buttons in the menu that look like you would select them to begin playing, but they are used to select items. The orange “Select Map” button will start the game.
The graphics in this game are sharp and the overall gameplay is great. Being able to customize your character adds a nice personal touch.
The developers are offering this game for free at the moment, so jump on board.
