Can You Save The Lemmings And Become The Ultimate Lemming Hero?
Lemming Hero ($0.99) by Naquatic is a fast-paced action game for the iPhone in which you must prevent lemmings from flinging themselves off of a cliff.
Remember that early 90s computer puzzle game, Lemmings? The lemmings from "Red Dwarf"? That one "South Park" episode? Well, this isn't any of those things, but the lemmings in this game are just as hilarious.
Someone told me lemmings being suicidal was a falsehood created by Disney. This person was usually incorrect, so I was surprised to find out that this was actually true. But nevertheless, these lemmings are very suicidal. And they need your help.
The goal of the game is simple. The lemmings will slowly begin to flood your screen as they make their way off the cliff; your job is to tap each one to prevent them from taking their own lives. Once you tap them, they turn around and head safely away from the cliff.
You will come across many different types of lemmings. Babies are extremely fast and don't count against you, but can only help your score. Big lemmings are a bit slower, but they take four taps to turn around — those fat ones are a pain. But, watch out! Some lemmings even have bombs!
The only thing that didn't seem to work properly with this app was pausing the game. It paused fine if you kept it open, but once you pressed the home button — with it paused and still running in the background — it didn't actually stay paused. When I came back to it, it was still on the pause screen, and yet the lemmings didn't seem to care. They continued thrusting their little selves off the cliff, causing me to lose almost immediately.
There are no levels to beat in this game, but there are plenty of Game Center achievements for your efforts. I don't know if I would necessarily pay for this app, as there are no levels to progress through or anything much to work towards. However, it did keep me occupied and laughing for a couple of days.
It's currently only one dollar in the App Store, though, so if you'd get a kick out of saving the suicidal lemmings — or possibly just watching them fling themselves off a cliff, you sick, sick people — then give it a go. After all, nothing is more amusing than stupid rodents, right?
