Pro:Alarm Is Like A Beautiful Swiss Army Knife For Clocks On Your iPhone
Pro:Alarm - All in One Clock & Alarm App: Weather, Clock, Timer, Dock, Nightstand & More! - AD FREE & ENHANCED Version ($0.99) by Less Code Ltd is a beautiful and intuitive multi-purpose clock app for your iPhone.
While Apple's own Clock app is useful and fine enough for most people, what if you want something with a bit more flair to it? I'm glad I stumbled upon Pro:Alarm.
Pro:Alarm does everything the default Clock app does, but better, with a few extra nifty features. The app itself has four different clocks: World Clock, Alarms, Timer, and Location.
On the World Clocks view, you can add multiple locations and choose whether they appear in a card or list view. List view will give you only the location, time and date, and an analog clock face indicating day or night. Card mode will include the temperature for today and tomorrow, which is a nice touch.
For those that like to use their iPhone as a nightstand, there is also a "Dock Mode" available. This will place selected locations on a beautiful woodgrain background. Each location can be dragged to move it higher or lower on the screen. Woodgrain not your thing? You can use your own backgrounds as well.
The Alarms is just as you'd expect it to be. However, there are a few little things that make it stand out from the default Clock app. You can have alarms for dates instead of time, and even have alarms ready for foreign time zones. This is especially useful for those that travel a lot.
Timers also work like the default app. You can set them for up to 23 hours and 59 minutes. When a timer is going off, it will countdown from the Timers view but also continue even if you exit the app.
Pro:Alarm also features location based alarms, which you can set in the Location tab. This allows you to create alarms that will activate once you are in a specified region, and you can adjust how close you have to be for it to activate. The location is set by tapping and holding on a point on the map, and you can adjust the radius. If you have various alarms for different places, then this feature will come in handy.
All of the alarms feature sounds that are different than what you would find in the normal Alarm app, though you can't use your own iPod music currently. But there are plenty of different sounds to choose from, including some voice alarms.
In the Settings for the app (found in the World Clocks view), you can adjust the color theme of the app. In addition, you have control over settings like default card or list view, and automatic or quartz movement for the clocks. The Dock Style can either be picture or LCD, and you can have it auto switch to Dock Mode when the iPhone is plugged in.
I did notice an inconsistency--when you go into Dock Mode, if you have the Picture option selected, the temperature seems to be shown in celsius. When I go back into the card view, the temperature is fahrenheit. I want to see just one temperature option, and even have the ability to choose between them in the Settings. Hopefully this can get fixed in an update.
Another feature that should be added in the future is the ability to listen to your own iPod music as an alarm.
Despite these, I still enjoy using Pro:Alarm. This is going to be my alarm clock for daily use now, because it's beautiful and easy-to-use. It also just contains a lot of features for an alarm app that is only one dollar.
If you don't want to pay the dollar, there is also a free Lite version to try.
