Tap-Tap Rockets ($0.99) by Pixilabs is a space arcade shooter in which you must protect the planets in the solar system from asteroid attacks. The unique gameplay, which includes some minor micromanaging, makes this game interesting, but is it enough to hold your attention?
The goal is to protect your planets from incoming asteroids with your rocket ships. The trick is that the rockets circle the planets and you must shoot them off at a precise moment so that they destroy the asteroids. The game has 27 levels with many bonuses and power-ups that you may collect along the way.
The rockets will continuously circle around the planets. Select a planet and one of the rockets will be highlighted, this is the rocket that will go flying once you hit the button. But make sure to send the rockets off at just the right moment so that they will wreak havoc on any and all asteroids in their path.
After shooting the rockets off, they will spawn on their planet of origin almost immediately. But beware of black holes as they will eat your rockets up and lengthen their spawn time.
This game starts out really slow and didn't seem to get much better for me. Although the pace quickens, as you have to micromanage more planets with even more rockets, waiting for the rockets to circle around is more irritating than fun. It's part micromanaging skills, part waiting game, and I personally don't have the patience for it.
This app is universal and only one dollar in the App Store. There's no Game Center support, but the game does offer OpenFeint achievements. It is definitely unique and very different from anything else I've seen game-wise (for iOS), but I just couldn't get into it.
